I, like many others, read review after review singing the praises of Creed Aventus. So, I ordered a decant of Aventus along with the oft-recommended clone, Club De Nuit Intense (CDNI). There isn't much for me to say, except that I do not understand the attraction to either fragrance. This is how I know we each have our own biochemistry, attraction to scents, and there is a need for many fragrances. For me, CDNI smells like the kind of overly masculine leaning fragrance you'd get at a local Walgreen's not the cheap because you're a high school student without much cash, and you've just gotta give something a shot. It's spicy in a vetiver-like way, and I waited and waited for the fruity and sweet notes to show up, but they never did. Opening and dry-down were awful, in my opinion.
I am SO glad that I went down the decant path. Whatever you do, NEVER take anyone's word for how a fragrance smells, and never blind-buy. Spend good cash on as many decants as you're interested in, narrow it down with objective measures (fragrance on your own skin), and cross stuff of your list. What remains will bring you great joy, and you'll be grateful that you paid the small entry fee of maybe $50-$100 of decants to know what works for you, and what doesn't..
