When I first smelled Tom Ford's Grey Vetiver, I thought one must be insane to wear such a bitter fragrance. But, as it dried down and I continued to smell the sample on a test strip over the next few hours, I came to enjoy it. I wasn't sure if I'd like wearing it, but I could see the appeal for the right man. So, after some research and deciding that Hermes Terre D'Hermes would be a more citrusy/fruity or Midler vetiver fragrance, I purchased a decant to try out.
Yeah... tis just isn't for me. I really liked the strong vetiver and citrus opening, and really believed it might work for me. After a few hours of drying down, D'Hermes seemed to get stronger than Grey Vetiver did, and I could not take it. I appreciate and like smelling the scent in general, but detested it on my own skin long-term. Of all scents I've smelled, these vetivers like D'hermes and the marine scents are the most offensive to my nose. This was a hard pass for me, but I respect those who can stomach it and even love it because it is a cool and very unique masculine scent.
